MARK RABBITT
HEAD COACH
[email protected]
After spending 8 years away from SMW, Coach Rabbitt is returning to not only the Viking Community but also the Viking Hoops Community. Coach Rabbitt spent two years here as the Varsity Girls Coach prior to leaving to serve as the BVSW Varsity Men’s Coach. During Coach Rabbitt’s coaching career, he has amassed over 100 career victories and has had the privilege of working with outstanding players and coaches. Coach has had over 20 players go on to play at the college level. His Lady Viking team won the Sunflower League and finished 3rd at State during the 2008-2009 season, a season in which Coach Rabbitt was named the Sunflower League Co-Coach of the year. Towards the end of his stint as the Varsity Boy’s Coach at BVSW, Coach Rabbitt was named the Community for Coaches Coach of the Year (2017).
Coach Rabbitt is married to his wife, Jocelyn, who is also a teacher and a former coach. They have two sons, Connor and Hayden. He is a graduate of Shawnee Mission South (95), where he was a varsity baseball and basketball player. He was fortunate enough to play with some great teammates and was part of Sunflower League Championships in both sports. He comes from a basketball family; his father was a member of the 1964 NAIA National Championship team and his brother, Kevin, was a 3 year starting PG at Rice University. After High School, Coach Rabbitt accepted a scholarship to play hoops at Avila University. After his sophomore year at Avila, he transferred to KU where, for the first time in his life…he was just a student (not a student/athlete). Coach Rabbitt is excited to be back with the outstanding SMW Community. After stepping down as the Head Coach at BVSW and leaving the profession altogether (for a short period of time), Coach Rabbitt’s first choice was to return to the land of the Vikings. He feels really excited to be back…once a Viking, always a Viking!
